Become a Friend

The Coleman is still standing because people here paid for it.

The Friends of the Coleman are volunteers. Since 1990, members have bought the paint, hauled the Wurlitzer home from Texas, and put the chandelier back where it belonged. Joining is how that work continues.

What a membership does

Where the money goes

The Friends are volunteers. The only person on the payroll is a part-time archivist, contracted to digitize the collection. Everything else goes into the building and what is in it.

Keeps the building standing

Plaster, wiring, roof and paint — the unglamorous work a 1929 building needs before it needs anything else.

Funds the next restoration

Every project the Friends have finished began as a line in a budget that members paid for.

Preserves the record

Programs, photographs, ledgers and oral histories, catalogued and kept so the story does not leave with the people who remember it.
